Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa, 15 March 2025 – GED Africa Ltd, through its local subsidiaries, and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (Zambia) Limited; and STE China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation RD Congo SARLU (CCECC) signed the contract for the construction of a 362 meter cable-stayed bridge that will connect the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Zambia over the Luapula River.
The bridge is part of the Kasomeno-Mwenda Toll Road Project (project) which includes the DRC’s first one stop border post. This signing further solidifies the collaboration between GED Africa and CCECC, having commenced road construction in Zambia and DRC in June 2024.
Tamás Jászberényi, CFO of the Duna Group and Co-CEO of GED Africa, stated, “The bridge itself symbolizes the essence of this project—two countries and a consortium of cultures and experts coming together for the region’s most historic infrastructure development. This unique public-private partnership includes two 25-year concession agreements, spans two countries thus presenting robust legal considerations. This accomplishment required coordination across multiple legal teams and harmonisation with local frameworks.

Representatives from CCECC Southern Africa, Jacques Liao, Managing Director, and Dean Yang, Executive General Manager, emphasized the importance of collaboration in delivering this critical infrastructure. Jacques Liao stated: “The construction of this bridge will be achieved through close cooperation between GED Africa, Duna Aszfalt, CCECC, and various public and private stakeholders. The project incorporates advanced engineering techniques to ensure durability and safety while adhering to international standards.”
